How to renew a medical marijuana card in Montana
Renewing your medical marijuana card in Montana involves the following steps:
Consultation with a Physician: Begin by obtaining a new Physician’s Statement for a Debilitating Medical Condition from a Montana-licensed Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). Minors must submit a Physician’s Statement for Minors signed by two licensed physicians or a neurologist or epileptologist.
Complete the Online Application: Submit your renewal through Montana’s TransAction Portal (TAP). During the process, you’ll update your information, upload your physician statement, photo, and proof of Montana residency, then complete the renewal application online.
Pay the Renewal Fee: Montana charges a $20 state renewal fee, paid electronically through the TransAction Portal. Additional costs may include physician evaluation fees.
Wait for Approval: After submission, the Cannabis Control Division provides temporary cards that can be printed from the portal, which you may use while waiting for your physical card. Physical cards may take up to six weeks to arrive.
